EUDEC 2008, post-conference thoughts

It’s over. It’s hard to believe, but our first conference is over. I got involved with EUDEC later than some – EUDEC had its first beginning about two years ago, and I only moved to Leipzig and got involved late last year. But I’m very glad I had the opportunity to take part in this, and the conference was nothing short of amazing.
Over those ten days, 389 people attended the conference. 150 were only there for the public session, but 239 came for the full conference. Approximately 22% of attendees were school students or younger and 25% were university students.
We had hoped some of the attendees would post to the blog during the conference, but we were all busy having a great time. Over the conference, we had dozens and dozens of workshops and activities, and the rest of the time we were busy getting to know new people, or hanging out with people we already knew, or working on different projects.
I hope to write a few more posts about the conference over the coming days, and if anyone else would like to contribute please let me know (posting a comment here would be a fine way to do so.)
Also, it would be great if everyone would leave a comment about one great experience from EUDEC 2008.

It has been the first time I have been at a conference of democratic education.I am glad that I have participated. I am very impressed to see what already exists and how many ideas there are. It was a great inspiration to me as well. I hope that the organisation of democratic education will continue to grow and to exist for a long long long time.

Hi Michael,
I attended the conference and as far as experiences go, this one is definitely a life changing one. I met so many wonderful people and managed to charge my batteries so much that I have been busy doing work towards a democratic school in Croatia and also preparing, together with Kosjenka Brajdic, a mini democratic education conference event in March 2009 in Zagreb. Leonard and Martin have agreed to come, as well as Marc Luyckx, to give us support and present+promote the democratic education idea in Croatia. I am looking forward to the next event, EUDEC and IDEC combined or whatever. Please do not allow politics of any kind to interfere with EUDEC work. You handled your role really well at the meeting in Leipzig, congratulations.

Yes, it was a great, great job that you did organising that event!
I endorse every word that Dragana said -until the Croatian part starts, jeje, for that part I can only say: well done, that’s what I’d call making a good use of those recharged batteries ;-D-.
It was soooo enriching, inspiring and such a hope-source. I did learn a lot, and not only about democratic education. And above it all, it was so much fun
!. Thank you to all.
I want to thank again everyone who worked soooo hard and so good for this awesome gathering to happen: local organisers, members of the council, and all who happily participated in all sorts of ways during those 10 days for the sake of the great working of the conference.
Thanks!
